The Puente de los Alemanes, officially the Puente de Santo Domingo, is a metal pedestrian bridge crossing the Guadalmedina river in Málaga. It was built in 1909 with funds donated by the German Empire in gratitude for the heroic rescue of survivors from the frigate SMS Gneisenau in 1900. In 1992 the bridge was repositioned to form a 90-degree angle with the church of Santo Domingo. A commemorative plaque on the bridge recalls the German donation. It is a symbol of Málaga's hospitality and of the twinning between Spain and Germany, and is protected as a historic monument.
