Atarazanas Central Market
The Atarazanas Central Market stands on the site of the 14th-century Nasrid shipyards (atarazanas), seafront dockyards of which only the monumental gate survives, a horseshoe arch with veined marble voussoirs dated to the time of Muhammad V. The current iron-and-glass building was designed by municipal architect Joaquín de Rucoba between 1876 and 1879, with three naves and the official name of the Alfonso XII market. In the rear gallery there is a large stained-glass window of 108 panels, made by the Atienza brothers in 1973, with views of the city's monuments; it was moved to its present position during the 2008 to 2010 renovation, which replaced the roof with a translucent one. The complex was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1979. It is right in the historic centre, next to the Alameda Principal, and brings together stalls of fish, fruit and other fresh produce.
