Aventine Hill

CultureVisit: ~60 minFree

The Aventine Hill is one of the seven hills on which ancient Rome was founded and today forms part of the rione Ripa. On the hill you will find churches and basilicas such as Santa Sabina and Santi Bonifacio ed Alessio, along with palaces and gardens, among them the Roseto Comunale. Its history is tied to the Roman plebs: the plebeians withdrew here in the 5th century BC and the temple of the plebeian triad of Ceres, Liber and Libera was built. In imperial times it was an area of aristocratic residences. Exploring it lets you combine religious heritage, residential architecture and viewpoints over the city.
