Brancacci Chapel
The Brancacci Chapel is at the end of the right transept of the church of Santa Maria del Carmine, in Florence's Oltrarno district, and is reached through the adjoining convent designed by Brunelleschi. Inside, the walls are organised in two horizontal levels of frescoes telling episodes from the life of Saint Peter, framed by painted pilasters and cornices. Visitors can see scenes such as The Tribute Money, The Expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Earthly Paradise, Saint Peter Healing the Sick with His Shadow or The Raising of Theophilus' Son, created by Masaccio, Masolino and Filippino Lippi between the 15th and 16th centuries. The cycle, which begins with the Original Sin and the Expulsion as its premise, is completed with scenes such as Saint Peter Preaching, the Baptism of the Neophytes or the Liberation of Saint Peter from Prison.
