A Renaissance building raised within the Alhambra complex from 1527, after Charles V's stay in Granada as a newly married man in 1526. It was designed by Pedro Machuca and its plan is unusual: a square 63 metres on each side with a circular courtyard inscribed inside it, something rare in Renaissance architecture. The courtyard has two levels of columns, Doric below and Ionic above, with a classical entablature. The façades have stone portals made of Sierra Elvira stone. The palace was left unfinished for centuries and was not fully roofed until the 20th century. Today it houses two museums: the Museum of Fine Arts of Granada, installed since 1958, and the Museum of the Alhambra, since 1994. You can enter the palace without going through the Nasrid Palaces, which have a timed-entry ticket.
