New Synagogue
The New Synagogue of Berlin stands on Oranienburger Straße as a partial reconstruction of the original building: the polychrome brick façade with its entrance survives, along with the main dome with its gilded ribs and two smaller domes on the side wings. Inside, most of the building houses offices and a museum, and visitors can also climb up to the dome. The permanent exhibition 'Tuet auf die Pforten', set in historically restored rooms, traces the history and fate of Berlin's Jews. The centre also holds an archive bringing together documents from more than 400 communities, personal estates, photographs and a library with more than 15,000 volumes.
