Siena Cathedral
Siena Cathedral is a Gothic church of white and greenish marble in alternating bands, with a screen façade richly decorated with sculptures and mosaics, including the Coronation of the Virgin in the pediment. Inside, visitors walk through naves with round arches and a marble floor with religious and pagan scenes made using an inlay technique, admired by Vasari. Highlights include the pulpit by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, works by Donatello and two early sculptures by Michelangelo on the Piccolomini Altar. The complex includes the Piccolomini Library, decorated with paintings by Pinturicchio, and the Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana, which houses Duccio's Maestà.
