The City God Temple is a Taoist temple in the Old City, next to the Yuyuan Garden, dedicated to Shanghai's protective deities. Founded in the early 15th century, during the Ming dynasty, it is one of the most visited temples in the city: its halls hold images of the guardian gods and it fills with worshippers during the festivals of the lunar calendar.
