El Rastro de Madrid
El Rastro is an open-air market held in the Embajadores neighbourhood, along the Plaza de Cascorro and Ribera de Curtidores, between Calle Embajadores and Ronda de Toledo. It sells second-hand goods, antiques, oddities and curiosities not usually found in shops and department stores. Some streets specialise in particular goods: Calle San Cayetano, known as 'Painters' Street', has permanent stalls selling paintings, drawings and art supplies; Calle Carnero and Calle Carlos Arniches are home to booksellers offering antique, rare and collectible books; and Plaza de Cascorro is where casual clothing and accessories are sold. At the stalls around Calle Rodas and the squares of General Vara del Rey and Campillo del Mundo Nuevo, magazines, collectible cards and stamps are bought and sold, and it is common to see children trading them with each other.
