St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast is notable for its Romanesque architecture and its role as an Anglican church serving two dioceses, Connor and Down and Dromore, although it is the seat of neither. Visitors can walk through the main nave, the baptistry and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, where mosaics dedicated to St. Patrick can be seen, as well as the tomb of Edward Carson in the south aisle. The south transept houses the Unitarian Chapel and the organ room, while the north transept contains the Chapel of the Royal Ulster Rifles and a large Celtic cross outside. One of the most striking features is the Spire of Hope, a 40-metre stainless-steel spire installed in 2007, which rises through the roof and is illuminated at night, visible both from outside and from inside the nave. The cathedral is also known for its pipe organ, one of the largest in Northern Ireland, and for the annual 'Black Santa' tradition, in which the dean and members of the chapter collect donations for charity on the cathedral steps. Visitors can attend religious services, enjoy choral music and find quiet spaces for prayer and reflection, especially in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit.
