London Aquatics Centre

The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor sports venue in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in Stratford, east London. It was designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, hosting the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. The complex has a 50-metre competition pool, a 50-metre warm-up pool and a 25-metre diving pool with platforms at 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 metres and three 3-metre springboards. The 50-metre pool is 3 metres deep and its floor can be raised to reduce depth, and it also has moveable barriers that allow its size to be changed. After the Games, the temporary spectator wings were removed and the venue opened to the public on 1 March 2014, since operating as a sports centre for local residents and a venue for international competitions such as the FINA Diving World Series in 2014 and 2019 and the 2016 European Swimming Championships. The building is notable for its undulating roof and its exposed concrete and timber structure, and was described by IOC president Jacques Rogge as a 'masterpiece'. It is the only swimming venue from the 2012 Games that remains in the park.
