Belfast Botanic Gardens

Belfast Botanic Gardens is an extensive 28-acre public park where visitors can explore historic glasshouses such as the Palm House, one of the world's earliest examples of a curvilinear glasshouse, and the Tropical Ravine House, notable for its sunken ravine and balconies for observing exotic plants such as the Dombeya, which flowers every February. Its botanical collections include long herbaceous borders, a rose garden built in 1932, unusual trees and species such as an 11-metre Australian lily and a 400-year-old Xanthorrhoea. On the Stranmillis esplanade, at the far end of the garden, concerts and music festivals are often held, and at the Stranmillis Road entrance there is a statue of Lord Kelvin.
