Lyric Theatre Belfast

The Lyric Theatre is Belfast's leading full-time producing theatre and the region's largest employer of actors and theatre professionals. Its current home, at 55 Ridgeway Street on the banks of the River Lagan, about 10 minutes from the city centre, was designed by O'Donnell & Tuomey and opened in 2011. It has a main auditorium seating almost 400 and the Naughton Studio, a flexible space for between 120 and 170 people. Its programme includes classic and contemporary plays, with works by authors such as Brian Friel, Martin McDonagh, Marie Jones and William Shakespeare, and in 2026 it presents titles such as Faith Healer, Partitions, Hello Charlie, The Importance of Being Earnest and Tea in a China Cup. The building houses a permanent exhibition by Northern Irish artist Colin Davidson and has a Café Bar for drinks before the show, during the interval or afterwards. The box office can be reached on 028 9038 1081, and opening hours vary depending on whether there is a performance. The institution is recognised as a shared cultural space in Belfast, and in 2023 it reported more than 90,000 visitors a year and around 13,000 schoolchildren through its education programme.
