Alcazaba of Málaga
The Alcazaba of Málaga is a palace-fortress of Islamic origin, built in the 11th century on a hill overlooking the city and the bay, characterised by its double defensive wall and numerous towers. Visitors pass through rectangular courtyards, gardens and pools, going through several fortified gates and passageways that show the combination of defensive and residential functions typical of Nasrid architecture. Along the way you can see archaeological remains such as Roman walls, small pools and reused elements from the adjacent Roman Theatre, as well as displays of historical finds. The route reveals the Alcazaba's connection to Gibralfaro Castle via a walled corridor and its proximity to the Roman Theatre, showing the overlap of cultures at this site.
