Roman Theatre
The Roman Theatre of Málaga is the main surviving trace of the Roman presence in the city. Located in the historic centre, at the foot of the Alcazaba hill, it is a mid-sized theatre that retains much of the cavea (tiered seating), the richly decorated orchestra with large marble slabs, and the scaena, where its flooring has been recreated with a wooden platform. Visitors can walk through the site via wooden walkways and round off the visit at the adjoining interpretation centre, opened in 2010, which introduces the Roman world through audiovisual displays and original pieces recovered during the excavations. The theatre has been a listed Site of Cultural Interest with Monument status since 1972 and is managed by the Regional Government of Andalusia. It opens Tuesday to Sunday.
