The Buenavista Palace stands on a landscaped, fenced promontory beside Plaza de la Cibeles, opposite the Bank of Spain, the Palacio de Linares and the Palacio de Comunicaciones. The current building was constructed from 1777 by the architect Juan Pedro Arnal for the 13th Duchess of Alba, combining Italian and French designs with an urban façade facing north. Since 1981 it has housed the Headquarters of the Spanish Army and it preserves numerous works of art.
