The Museum of Greek Folk Art (now the Museum of Modern Greek Culture) is a state institution founded in 1918 that documents Greek folk culture and pre-industrial life. Its main premises are at number 17 Kydathinaion Street, in Plaka, with several annexes in Athens' historic centre. The permanent exhibition 'Άνθρωποι και Εργαλεία: Όψεις της Εργασίας στην Προβιομηχανική Κοινωνία' (People and Tools: Aspects of Work in Pre-industrial Society) is housed in the building at 22 Panos Street. The Tzistarakis Mosque, on Monastiraki Square, holds the V. Kyriazopoulos Collection of folk ceramics. The Bath House of the Winds (Loutro ton Aeridon), at 8 Kyrristou Street, is the only surviving public Ottoman bathhouse in Athens and traces the practice of cleanliness and body care through the ages. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions and educational events.
