Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is Shanghai's most important commercial artery and one of the busiest shopping streets on the planet, with more than a million visitors a day. It is divided into two sections: Nanjing Road East, which runs from the Bund to People's Square and includes the 1,200-metre pedestrian zone, and Nanjing Road West, which extends into Jing'an District. The pedestrian section concentrates the city's oldest and largest department stores, along with traditional shops and long-established restaurants. Near the Bund is the Central Market, a century-old open-air market specialising in electronic components and digital media. On Nanjing Road West, in the HKRI Taikoo Hui complex, is the world's largest Starbucks store, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, with its own roasting facilities and Shanghai-exclusive offerings. The street is well served by metro Line 2, with stations including Nanjing Road (E.), People's Square, Nanjing Road (W.) and Jing'an Temple. Throughout the year, especially at Chinese New Year, New Year's Eve, Christmas and Easter, events and occasional fireworks displays are held.
