Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre

The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre is a six-storey building with two basement levels on People's Square, next to the municipal government building. Inside, the centrepiece is a large model of the whole city of Shanghai showing buildings already constructed and approved projects; visitors can walk around it or go up to a gallery encircling it for a view from above. Next to the model is a small screening room with a 360° screen showing a video that gives the sensation of flying over the Shanghai of the future, including notable sites and some pavilions from Expo 2010. The centre also holds exhibitions on the history and development of Shanghai, with smaller models focused on specific areas such as the Bund, and has space for temporary exhibitions on various themes. The building, designed by Ling Benli (ECADI), is 43 metres high, clad in white aluminium panels, with a symbolic membrane roof.
