Bermeja Tower
Bermeja Tower is a coastal watchtower on the Punta Saltillo, now incorporated into the landscaped entrance square of Benalmádena Marina. Probably built in the late 15th century on a rocky outcrop, it formed part of the Nasrid defensive system, which communicated with other towers and nearby towns by fire and smoke. The structure is built of masonry, about 3.33 metres in diameter and 10 metres high, with a spherical brick vault and a side stairway leading up to the flat roof. In 1567 a conical ravelin was added to counter the force of the wind. Its interior is inaccessible and only retains an opening on the south face and a narrow window acting as a loophole on the north face. Visitors can view the tower's exterior and its landscaped surroundings by the marina, but no access points, interpretive signage or associated activities are documented.
