Marseille Botanical Garden

Marseille Botanical Garden, also known as the Jardin botanique E.M. Heckel or Jardin botanique Borély, is a 12,000 m² municipal garden in Parc Borély, at 48 Avenue Clot Bey. It holds more than 3,500 species arranged in themed collections: a medicinal plant garden, a traditional Chinese garden donated by the city of Shanghai in 2004, a palmetum, a climbing-plant garden, a succulent garden, a Mediterranean garden and a Japanese garden. A highlight is a greenhouse with nearly 300 species of South African flora. It is the city's fourth botanical garden and its herbarium carries the code MARSM; it is a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI). It is open every day of the year except Mondays, and an admission fee is charged. Next to it, Château Borély houses the Musée des Arts décoratifs, de la Faïence et de la Mode, listed as a historic monument since 1993.
