At the Museum of Liverpool, visitors explore the city's history through objects from costume, decorative arts, entomology and botany collections, as well as oral testimonies, archaeological material and photographic archives. The exhibitions are organised into four major themed galleries: The Great Port, Global City, People's Republic and Wondrous Place, covering everything from Liverpool's urban and technological development to its social and cultural identity from the Neolithic period to the present day. The museum also has spaces such as Little Liverpool, a gallery for children under six, History Detectives, an interactive centre for archaeological and historical resources, a theatre for performances, and a gallery dedicated to the history of the King's Regiment called City Soldiers. Among the highlighted objects is the Lion steam locomotive, famous for its appearance in the film The Titfield Thunderbolt.
