St Nicholas Church
St Nicholas Church stands in the centre of Leipzig and stands out for its architectural history, with Romanesque origins in the 12th century, Gothic extensions in the 16th century and a Neoclassical interior remodelled in the late 18th century. Four of the five historical performances of Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion were given in this church, along with numerous cantatas and oratorios performed by the Thomanerchor. Visitors can see a monumental organ, considered one of the finest examples of the Romantic style in Europe, which has been restored and extended over the years.
