William Morris Gallery
A museum dedicated to William Morris, designer, writer and central figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. It occupies Water House, a mid-18th-century Georgian house on Forest Road, Walthamstow, in north-east London, where the Morris family lived from 1848 to 1856, when he was a teenager. The gallery opened in 1950 and, after a complete refurbishment, won the Art Fund Museum of the Year award in 2013. The rooms follow his life and work: the wallpapers and printed textiles of Morris & Co., furniture, stained glass, tiles and the books of the Kelmscott Press, as well as work by other Arts and Crafts artists. Admission is free and it is open Tuesday to Sunday. Behind the house stretches Lloyd Park, the former garden of the estate, with its moat. From Walthamstow Central station it is about a fifteen-minute walk.
