Gadagne is a museum complex housed in the Hôtel de Gadagne, a 16th-century Renaissance building in the Saint-Jean district, within the Vieux Lyon. It brings together two museums: the Museum of the History of Lyon, which since 1921 has shown in 30 rooms spread over four floors some 80,000 pieces —archaeological remains, sculptures, paintings, furniture and ceramics— to trace the history of the city from the Middle Ages, and the Puppetry Arts Museum, built around the original guignol puppet and with up to 2,000 puppets presented in nine separate rooms after the renovation of the 2000s. The building, classified as a historic monument since 1920, keeps a majestic courtyard with a well and galleries of superimposed corridors. On the third floor there is a small 150-seat theatre and on the fourth floor you can reach a 700 m² garden. The complex is completed by a restaurant and boutique, and it is reached by metro to Vieux Lyon - Cathédrale Saint-Jean, with accessible entry at 14 rue de Gadagne.
