The museum occupies the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo, a building put up for the 1937 International Exposition, and reopened in October 2019 after a €10 million renovation. Its permanent collection brings together thousands of works tracing the trends of 20th- and 21st-century art, with names such as Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Modigliani, Léger, Delaunay, Klein and Soulages, and includes monumental murals by Raoul Dufy, Gaston Suisse and Henri Matisse. There is also a programme of monographic and thematic exhibitions on modern and contemporary art that changes every six weeks.
