Ghibli Museum

The Ghibli Museum, in Mitaka, Tokyo, is dedicated to the art and craft of Studio Ghibli's animation. The building, designed by Hayao Miyazaki, features spiral staircases, bridges and balconies that form part of the experience. Inside, visitors find permanent exhibits such as 'Where a Film is Born', which shows an animator's creative process, and a three-dimensional zoetrope called 'Bouncing Totoro'. The Saturn Theatre screens exclusive short films from the studio on a rotating basis. On the roof stands a life-size statue of the robot from Castle in the Sky and a replica of Laputa's cornerstone. The museum also has a play area with a stuffed Catbus for children, a gift shop called Mamma Aiuto, a reading room and bookshop called Tri Hawks, and the Straw Hat Café, which serves homestyle food and a house beer called 'Valley of the Wind'. Entry is by advance reservation only.
