The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße is an indoor and outdoor commemorative site documenting the city's division. It includes an original 60-metre stretch of the Wall as it stood in 1989, with the death strip, a signal fence, a lit path and a watchtower; the area is not accessible to visitors and the ends of the wall are sealed with stainless steel. On the opposite side of Bernauer Straße is the Documentation Centre, with seminar rooms, exhibitions and a five-storey observation tower. The Chapel of Reconciliation, oval in shape with a timber-slat façade, stands on the site of the former Church of Reconciliation, destroyed in 1985. The memorial is completed by a window of remembrance, a visitor centre and a commemorative landscape west of Nordbahnhof station. The Berlin Wall Foundation offers exhibitions, tours and educational programmes, as well as a digital guide for exploring Bernauer Straße on a mobile phone.
