Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium

SportVisit: ~90 minFrom €10

Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, also known as Leoforos Alexandras, is the oldest football stadium in Greece still in use, opened in 1922. It was the first in the country to have floodlights (1938) and a grass pitch (1958), and for almost 50 years it hosted most of the big national and international matches, as well as being the regular home of the Greek national team. Beneath its stands is a set of sports facilities that includes the Pavlos and Thanasis Giannakopoulos indoor arena, the first in Greece (1959), nicknamed 'The Indian's Tomb' for the hostile atmosphere the fans create; there is also a small swimming pool, a boxing ring, an indoor shooting range, training rooms, the club's official shop, a press room and several cafés. Gate 13, heavily covered in graffiti, is the meeting point of Panathinaikos's noisiest supporters. The stadium remains the club's main base and was used by Athens Kallithea in the 2024-25 season.
