Yonghe Temple
CultureVisit: ~90 min
A Lama temple, the most important of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. It was the residence of Prince Yong, the future Yongzheng Emperor, and in 1744 it became a lamasery under the reign of Qianlong. Its successive courtyards lead to the Wanfu Pavilion, which houses a statue of Maitreya about 18 metres tall, carved from a single sandalwood trunk. It is in Dongcheng district, next to Guozijian Street.
