Neo-Gothic Catholic cathedral on Fifth Avenue, opposite Rockefeller Center. It was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. and consecrated in 1879. It is built of white marble and its two spires rise above the Midtown skyscrapers. Inside, the stained-glass windows, the great organ and the high altar stand out.
