Cuicuilco
CultureVisit: ~60 min
Archaeological site south of the city, one of the first great ceremonial centres of the Valley of Mexico, occupied from around 800 BC. It is notable for a stepped circular pyramid about twenty metres high. The centre was abandoned after the eruption of the Xitle volcano, whose lava covered it. It can be visited, and there is a small site museum.
