Marbella City Walls

The urban walls of Marbella are a fortification listed as a Site of Cultural Interest, preserving the remains of a 10th-century walled precinct. Together with Marbella Castle, it covered an area of around 90,000 m² and enclosed the old Arab medina, which today corresponds to the city's old town. The precinct had three gates — the Puerta de Ronda, the Puerta de Málaga and the Puerta del Mar — and more than twenty towers built to protect the city from possible attacks from the coast. Part of the wall has been restored. Today visitors cannot enter the castle itself, but they can walk along the outside of the wall and enjoy picturesque views of the old town as they go. The wall is woven into the modern city, where historic elements sit alongside more recent buildings.
