Buddhist temple of the Rengeō-in complex, founded in 1164 and rebuilt in 1266 after a fire. Its main hall, about 120 metres long, houses 1,001 wooden statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, in rows, with a large seated central figure. Around them are twenty-eight guardians and the deities of thunder and wind. On the outer gallery, the Tōshiya archery tournament is held every January.
