The Tokyo Temple is a religious building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in the Minato district, opposite Arisugawa Park. Dedicated in 1980, it was the church's first temple in Asia and its compact design served as a model for other urban temples. The exterior, clad in stone panels that imitate light grey granite, is crowned with a 28-metre spire and a golden statue of the angel Moroni. The interior, accessible only to members with a recommend, incorporates elements of Japanese culture such as Shibui-style furniture, lamps inspired by Shoji lanterns and stained glass with floral motifs. The gardens include Japanese maples, bamboo, two ponds and a waterfall. Next to the temple is a four-storey annex housing a visitor centre open to the public, with interactive exhibits, paintings and photographs on the history and beliefs of the church. It also has a Family History Center and a distribution store. The temple is a five-minute walk from Hiroo metro station.
