Fatih Mosque
CultureVisit: ~45 min
A great mosque in the Fatih district, built between 1463 and 1470 by Mehmed II on the site of the Church of the Holy Apostles. The earthquake of 1766 destroyed the original and the present one is an Ottoman Baroque reconstruction, completed under Mustafa III. Behind the mosque is the mausoleum of Mehmed II himself, the conqueror of Constantinople, in a complex with a courtyard and madrasas.
