CultureVisit: ~45 min
Confucian temple in Bunkyō, built in 1690 by order of the shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi and rebuilt after several fires and earthquakes. It was the centre of Confucian education in the Edo period, and an official shogunate school was later established there. Its main hall, the Taiseiden, has black-tiled roofs and a large statue of Confucius, and the place keeps a serene atmosphere.
