Konohana Bridge
The Konohana Bridge is a self-anchored suspension bridge opened in 1990 that connects Osaka to the artificial island of Maishima, in the seaport. Its design is unusual in that it has a single main cable running along the centreline of the deck, supported by two A-shaped towers, with the hangers tilting alternately forward and backward. The structure is about 1,700 m long overall, with a 300 m main span and a width of 26.5 m, including three lanes per direction for vehicles and separate space for cyclists and pedestrians. At the time of its completion, it was the largest self-anchored suspension bridge in the world.
