Opera and ballet theatre founded in 1776. The current neoclassical building is by Joseph Bové and dates from 1825, after a fire; its facade has a portico of eight columns crowned by the quadriga of Apollo. It reopened in 2011 after a long restoration. It is on Teatralnaya Square, next to the Kremlin, and its ballet company is among the most prestigious in the world.
