Moscow's main square, at the foot of the Kremlin wall, which began to take shape at the end of the 15th century under Ivan III. It measures about 330 metres long and brings together St Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum, the GUM department store, the State Historical Museum and Kazan Cathedral. Together with the Kremlin, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
