Osaka Science Museum

The Osaka Science Museum, in Nakanoshima, offers an educational and interactive experience across four floors with 200 exhibits covering topics such as the universe and energy. Visitors can enjoy a planetarium with a 26.5-metre-radius dome, the seventh largest in the world, which projects digital images of the night sky. Live science shows are also held several times a day, though the demonstrations are in Japanese. The museum holds a historical collection that includes Japan's first planetarium projector (a Carl Zeiss II model) and a Cockcroft-Walton accelerator. The building has historical significance as the place where Hideki Yukawa developed his meson theory, for which he won the Nobel Prize. It opened in 1989 to mark the centenary of the city of Osaka and has a specialist astronomy library, the most comprehensive in western Japan.
