An opera house opened in 1909 on Praça Floriano, in the heart of Cinelândia. Its eclectic façade is inspired by the Paris Opéra Garnier. Inside, the highlights are the grand staircase, the marbles, the gilding and the paintings by Eliseu Visconti. It hosts Rio's opera and ballet season and is one of the most representative buildings of the carioca Belle Époque.
