Laugavegur
LeisureVisit: ~90 min
Reykjavik's main shopping street, running east through the centre. Its name means “the washing road”: this is the way women went to wash clothes at the hot springs of Laugardalur. Today it has Icelandic design shops, woollen clothing, bookshops, cafés and bars, with many brightly painted buildings and murals on the nearby streets. Part of the street is pedestrianised in summer.
