CultureVisit: ~15 min
Fountain column commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 and completed in 1808, in Place du Châtelet, between the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Théâtre de la Ville. The shaft, topped with palm leaves, lists his victories (Lodi, the Pyramids, Marengo, Ulm, Danzig); the gilded Victory is a copy from 1898 and the original is in the Carnavalet Museum. Four sphinxes decorate the lower basin, added by Davioud in 1858.
