Street market alongside the railway tracks between Ueno and Okachimachi stations. It began as a black market after the Second World War and today mixes fishmongers, stalls selling dried fruit and nuts, sweets, clothing and cosmetics, with vendors calling out their wares. The name comes from ‘ame’, meaning candy, and from the English word ‘America’.
