The National Museum of Western Art stands in Ueno Park, central Tokyo, and is dedicated to art of the Western tradition. Its main building, designed by Le Corbusier and completed in 1959, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list alongside other works by the architect. Inside, the main building exhibits pre-18th-century paintings by artists such as Veronese, Rubens, Bruegel and Fragonard, while the new wing houses 19th- and early 20th-century French painting, with works by Delacroix, Courbet, Manet, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, Miró, Dubuffet and Pollock. The collection also includes an extensive series of Rodin sculptures, with around sixty pieces, alongside works by Carpeaux, Bourdelle and Maillol, and a collection of drawings and prints spanning five centuries.
