Statue of Saigō Takamori (Ueno)

Bronze statue in Ueno Park, unveiled in 1898, depicting Saigō Takamori, a samurai and statesman who was key to the Meiji Restoration. It was the work of the sculptor Takamura Kōun and shows Saigō dressed informally, with a dog at his side, as on his hunting walks. It is one of the best-known monuments in the park.
