Tokyo International Forum
The Tokyo International Forum is a convention and performing arts centre in the Marunouchi district, between Tokyo and Yūrakuchō stations. Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and completed in 1996, the building is notable for its curved steel-and-glass structure and its exterior shape resembling an elongated ship. It houses a main hall seating 5,000 people and seven other halls, as well as exhibition spaces, restaurants, shops and other facilities. Inside, it displays an art collection under the theme 'The Ship of Diversity', with 134 works by 50 Japanese and international artists. On the first floor, facing the Imperial Palace, is a bronze sculpture of Ōta Dōkan. The centre hosts a wide range of events, such as concerts, musicals, international conferences, ceremonies, symposiums, exhibitions and fashion shows. It has hosted events such as the 2011 congress of the International Union of Architects, the weightlifting events of the 2020 Olympic Games and the television programme Kōhaku Uta Gassen. The building will close for renovation from January 2029 to March 2030.
