Cortijo de Miraflores
The cortijo was built in 1706 on the commission of Tomás Francisco Domínguez y Godoy on the remains of an old farmhouse of the family entailed estate, in the Pilar-Miraflores district. From the start it combined a sugar mill and, later, an olive-oil mill that operated until 1959. In the mid-19th century, Antonio Domínguez Alburquerque gave it the appearance it keeps today. The building shows a Mudéjar timber roof similar to that of Marbella Town Hall and two coats of arms on the façade: that of the Franciscan Order and the Domínguez family arms; inside are preserved medallions with saints and a tile showing the Virgin of the Pilar appearing to Saint James. The Town Hall acquired and restored it in 1990 and today it houses the Centro Cultural Cortijo Miraflores, the Municipal Historical Archive and the Olive Oil Museum, with the complete 19th-century oil mill: mill, malaxer and two hydraulic presses. Gardens with specimens of cycads and palm trees surround the building.
