Bonsai Museum

The Bonsai Museum in Marbella is a private botanical museum located in Parque Arroyo de la Represa. Opened in 1991, it was the third of its kind in Europe and displays a collection of around 200 to 300 bonsai trees from all over the world, with a particular focus on Japan and the Mediterranean. Notable specimens include a juniper more than 400 years old known as 'El Toro', wild olives grown on rock from El Torcal, a 300-year-old wild olive and an endangered Spanish fir. The museum has a square central courtyard built around a large rock, and a rock garden with water cascades. It houses the Fuji Kyookai Bonsai school, which runs courses, exhibitions and educational activities. It has hosted conferences with international masters such as Kimura Masahiko and Massimo Bandera. It is a cultural space that aims to bridge the cultures of Asia and the Mediterranean.
